How do I sign a PDF on my phone?
Last updated: 1 November 2026
Open Sign PDF in your phone's browser, select the PDF, draw your signature with your finger, drag it into place and download the signed file. It works in modern browsers on Android and iPhone, and you don't need an app, an account, a printer or a scanner.
This guide is for anyone who receives a rental agreement, offer letter, school form or delivery note on their phone and needs to send it back signed. The PDF is signed by your phone's own browser, so the document and your signature are never uploaded.
Step by step
- Open the tool in your browser. On your Android phone or iPhone, open Sign PDF in a modern browser. There is nothing to install and no sign-up.
- Select your PDF. Tap “Select PDF file” and choose the document from your files or downloads. Its first page is shown.
- Draw your signature with your finger. Sign in the box with your fingertip. You can also type your name and pick a handwriting style, or upload a photo of your signature instead.
- Place and resize it by touch. Tap “Add to page”, drag the signature to the right spot and resize it with the round handle. Use the arrows above the page to sign other pages too.
- Add the date and other text. Under “Add more to the page”, add a date (today's date is filled in; pick the format you need), your initials, free text such as your name or city, and check marks or crosses for form boxes.
- Sign and download. Tap “Sign PDF”, then “Download”. The signed PDF is saved on your phone, ready to share.
Tips for signing with your finger
- Take your time in the drawing box. If the first attempt looks shaky, draw it again before you add it to the page.
- Turn your phone sideways for more room while you draw and place items.
- Use your browser's pinch zoom to check small fields, such as a date line or a tick box, before you tap “Sign PDF”.
- Not happy with your finger signature? Sign on white paper, take a sharp photo in good light and upload it with “Remove white background” turned on. Only the ink is placed on the page.
- Need the same signature on several pages? Place it as often as you need and move or resize each copy before you save.
Finding and sending the signed PDF
After you tap “Download”, your browser saves the file the way it saves other downloads. On Android, look in your Downloads folder or the Files app. On iPhone, look in the Files app, usually under Downloads.
To send it back, open your email or chat app, attach the file from that folder and send it. Many phones also let you share the file directly from the Files app or the browser's download list.
If the file is too big to email or to upload to a form, run it through Compress PDF on your phone first. How much smaller it gets depends on what is inside the PDF.
When to use something else
Most everyday forms, offers and agreements only need a visible signature, and in many countries a simple electronic signature like this is accepted for such documents. The rules depend on your country and the type of document, though. If a contract requires a qualified or digital signature, use a certified signing service instead.
To discourage further changes after signing, continue with Protect PDF, which locks the PDF with a password. Send the password separately from the file, for example by phone.

Frequently asked questions
Can I really sign a PDF on my phone without an app?
Yes. Sign PDF runs in modern browsers on Android and iPhone. You draw your signature with your finger, drag it into place and download the signed PDF.
Is my document uploaded anywhere?
No. Your PDF and your signature are processed by the browser on your own phone and are never uploaded, so nobody else can see them.
Is a signature made on my phone legally valid?
In many countries a simple electronic signature like this is accepted for everyday documents, but the rules depend on your country and the type of document. It is not a certificate-based digital signature; if a contract requires a qualified or digital signature, use a certified signing service.
Does the site keep my signature for next time?
No. Your signature exists only in the open browser tab while you work and is gone when you close the page. You create it again the next time you sign.
Can I add today's date and tick boxes on a form?
Yes. Under “Add more to the page” you can add a date with today's date filled in, initials, any text, and check marks or crosses. Dates and text are written as real text, marks as sharp vector lines.
Where does the signed PDF go after I tap “Download”?
Your browser saves it like any other download, typically in Downloads on Android or in the Files app on iPhone. From there you can attach it to an email or chat message.
Your files are processed in your browser and are not uploaded. See the privacy policy.
