How to reorder pages in a PDF
Last updated: 1 November 2026
To reorder PDF pages, open Organize PDF, select your file, drag the page thumbnails into the order you want and click Save PDF. In the same place you can also rotate pages, remove pages, insert blank pages and add the pages of other PDFs.
This guide is for anyone with pages in the wrong order: a double-sided scan that came out jumbled, an appendix that belongs at the end, or a cover letter that should come before a CV. It works in any modern browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android or iPhone. You need no account and no software, and your original file is never changed.
Step by step
- Select your PDF. Open Organize PDF and click “Select PDF file”, or drop a PDF onto the page. A thumbnail of every page appears.
- Drag pages into order. Drag each page to its new position, or use the arrow buttons to move it one step at a time. Click “Reverse order” if the whole stack was scanned back to front.
- Rotate or remove pages. Click the rotate button under a sideways page to turn it. Click the bin button to remove a page you don't need.
- Insert blank pages or add another PDF. Click a page, then click “Blank page” to add an empty page of the same size after it. Click “Add PDF” to bring in the pages of one or more other files.
- Check your changes. Scroll through the thumbnails to confirm the order. If you want to start over, click “Reset”.
- Save and download. Click “Save PDF” and your browser creates the reorganized PDF on your device. Then click “Download” to save it.
Moving pages on a phone, tablet or keyboard
Dragging works with a mouse, but on a touchscreen it is easier to use the controls under each page.
- Touch and hold the dotted handle under a page, then drag it to its new place.
- Tap the left or right arrow to move a page one step at a time. This is more precise in a long document.
- The arrow buttons also work with the keyboard, so you can rearrange pages without a mouse.
- Previews load only as you scroll, so long documents stay quick to work with.
What happens to bookmarks, form fields and links
The result depends on which changes you make.
Only reordering and rotating
The file is edited in place. Bookmarks, form fields and internal links keep working.
Removing, inserting or adding pages
A new file is built from the pages you keep, and bookmarks are not carried over. If bookmarks matter to you, limit your changes to reordering and rotating.
Typical jobs and when to use another tool
Organize PDF handles most page-order tasks in one place:
- Put a cover letter in front of a CV.
- Move an appendix to the end of a report.
- Fix the page order of a double-sided scan.
- Remove the blank pages a scanner added.
- Insert blank pages so that chapters start on a right-hand page when you print double-sided.
For simpler jobs, a dedicated tool is quicker:
- To join whole files without changing the page order inside them, use Merge PDF.
- To turn many pages at once, for example all landscape pages, use Rotate PDF.
- To remove many pages by typing numbers such as 2, 5-7, use Remove PDF pages.

Frequently asked questions
How do I move a page on my phone?
Touch and hold the dotted handle under the page and drag it to its new place. You can also tap the left and right arrows to move it one step at a time.
Can I undo my changes?
Yes. Click Reset to return to the original page order with no rotations or removed pages. Your original file is never changed.
Will bookmarks and form fields still work?
If you only reorder and rotate pages, yes. The file keeps its bookmarks, form fields and links. If you also remove, insert or add pages, a new file is built from the pages you keep and bookmarks are not carried over.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. Your PDF is reorganized in your browser, on your own device, and nothing is uploaded. See our privacy policy.
Can I combine pages from several PDFs?
Yes. Click Add PDF and choose one or more files. Their pages appear after the page you last clicked, and you can drag, rotate or remove them. To simply join whole files, Merge PDF is quicker.
Can I rearrange PDF pages without Adobe Acrobat?
Yes. Organize PDF runs in any modern browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android or iPhone, so you don't need to install Acrobat or any other software.
Your files are processed in your browser and are not uploaded. See the privacy policy.
